A major focus of the Coastal Center for Mind-Body Therapies is to assist sufferers with the chronic condition of lymphedema. To provide education to the patient and the medical community about the condition of lymphedema and to provide free or low cost treatment and supplies to the uninsured or underinsured patients in our community who cannot afford quality lymphedema treatment.
The Lymphedema Center utilizes the Vodder Method which is considered the most complete and thorough program available for the treatment of chronic lymphedema.
The Treatment Program includes a method called COMBINED OR COMPLEX DECONGESTIVE PHYSIOTHERAPY: a four step process, carried our over a four to six week period. The individual elements are:
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
Compression Therapy
Remedial Exercises, and
Excellent Skin Hygiene
Depending on the severity of the condition, individual factors and in accordance with the physician's recommendations, patients visit the Center 1 - 3 times a week. Since there is no cure for chronic lymphedema, after the initial phase of treatment, a maintenance program is set up with the patient.
In our effort to provide the highest quality of service, the Center only employs graduates who are certified by the Vodder School for Lymphatic Therapy. Based out of Austria, this school has the most extensive and complete training available in North America; 160 hours of training, where many schools have only 110 - 125 hours.
